Beginning August 17th, 2021, Pathway To The Ballot Box will bring to life the stories of 8 courageous women over 250 years leading up to the first vote cast by a woman in New Paltz, New York. Audiences take a trip down Historic Huguenot Street, and meet women fighting for representation in their respective communities/eras, blurring lines between the past and the present. Pathway To The Ballot Box was made possible by a grant from The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).

A diverse group of female-identifying writers representing diverse ages/disciplines/backgrounds were commissioned to write monologues capturing the essence of the women of New Paltz, based on source materials from the Historic Huguenot Street archives. The writers who contributed monologues to Pathway To The Ballot Box include:

Kate Douglas, Vickie Ramirez, Mary Page Keller, Nia Witherspoon, Penelope Lowder, Rae Binstock, Amber Neilson and Elizabeth Cady Stanton

As we enter an era where voting rights and accessibility are under tremendous pressure, Pathway To The Ballot Box hopes to bring humanity to 8 previously unknown women and illuminate the struggles that lead to oppressed voices finally being heard...
